Triton Tails (est. 2021) is a social club with over 400 members, devoted to appreciating and engaging with furry culture and media through a positive and lighthearted lens.
Our shared interests bring us together in many forms: art-making, sharing media, watching films/movies, and crafting costumes and cosplay. Our events include game nights, study jams, VR hangouts, and festivals with hundreds of attendees—taking place across San Diego, LA, and beyond.
We hope to showcase the best of what the fandom has to offer: a place for community, belonging, and having fun, whether or not you're a furry.
What is a furry?
Furries are anyone who is interested in cool animal characters—like from video games, books, or shows. Think of Disney's Zootopia, Puss in Boots, and Sonic the Hedgehog. Furries often create their own original characters, called fursonas, which represent them in a fun and creative way.
At its core, being a furry is about having fun, expressing yourself, and connecting with others who share an interest in cool animal characters!
How do I get involved?

We have casual hangouts and study jams almost every day, and club meetups every week. Join our Discord to stay updated and sign-up for events.

Common Myths & FAQs
Here are some common questions we get from non-furries:
Furries often cosplay as their character to be silly, but you definitely don't need one!
Fursuits are considered a luxury item -- Only about 25% of furries have a fursuit, and they often take months of craftsmanship. Partial suits are at least $1,000-$2,000, while fullsuits are at least $3,000-$5,000, and can even go upwards of $50,000.
Fursuits can be incredibly creative and high-tech! Many fullsuits have custom cooling systems that involve a lot of engineering to dispel heat. Some include electronics like sensors, LED displays, and animatronics for facial expressions.
Furries often create original characters, known as "fursonas," as a unique form of self-expression. This can be more challenging with just human characters or typical media. It's a fun and creative process, similar to how sports teams have mascots, how you choose your profile picture online, or how you customize your avatar in online games.
A close analogy would be asking, "What is your spirit animal?" and then developing that concept into a character that embodies your personality, values, and beliefs.
Furries are not inherently NSFW — This is a common misconception and fictional portrayal of the fandom.

Triton Tails is the UC San Diego chapter of the AAAA (Anthropomorphic Animal Appreciation Association), the global furry network for universities. There are over 100 chapters, so it's pretty likely to find one at a nearby university!
